Healthcare expenses have become a major burden to so many people. Not everyone has the money to cover the out of pocket expenses that come from medical bills. In Nigeria and some other parts of the world, full payment of hospital bills is required in order to be discharged. In most cases, a partial payment is required before treatment can begin. The Joyous Smiles Hospital Discharge Project was birthed after much research and seeing the high number of patients that have to remain in hospitals due to the inability to pay for their medical bills. We partnered with the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) to identify such patients, and we were able to pay off the medical bills of several patients.
